Steps
- Download the official ZIP and fully extract it to a permanent folder such as Apps\v2rayN under your user profile. Never run it from the archive preview.
- Avoid Program Files and other locations that require administrator write access. Do not keep the working copy in a temporary browser-download folder.
- Run v2rayN.exe, import a profile you are authorized to use, perform one real connection test and select a working profile.
- Enable Set system proxy and test common sites in a browser. Configure startup or TUN only after this simple path works.
Why this matters
A stable writable folder prevents failed upgrades, disappearing configuration and repeated security scans of temporary files.
How to verify
Profiles remain after closing and reopening the app; the browser works with the system proxy enabled, and normal networking returns after clearing it.
Things to watch
If Windows Security raises an alert, verify the source first. Do not disable the entire security stack or switch to an unknown repack.
